this weeks IF progress

the topic for illustration friday this week is 'reverse', so i thought about wrong directions and having to go back on yourself (which career-wise i seem to be doing a lot of a the moment!) so a compass encapsulates this well i reckon. colour and general fiddling with to be done tonight hopefully.

dachshunds have to be the cutest dogs in the entire world (well, after basset hounds!) when/if i ever move out i'm going to have to get one of each!

valentines idea #1

valentines day already?! argh!
so to avoid the extortionate prices of cards in the shops i'm doing what i always do, making my own card for my wonderful boyfriend :) this is the first idea i've had which i'm liking because its not too lovey-dovey (robots are always going to be cute though, but this can't be helped) i'll rearrange them in a line so it looks like a little sequence. let's see what else i can come up with, with less than two weeks to go... hmm.

oh ebay how i love thee...

the wonderful sublime stitching company recommended a certain transfer pen when doing your own embroidery designs, and through ebay i have ordered said pen from the grand ol' U.S of A. so when it arrives i can do loads of my own designs and embroider them! exciting stuff! this is my first design, i think it'd look fab framed with loads of colour threads etc :)

sunday evening paintings

after many many months of digital work i decided it was about time i picked up a paint brush again. these however are my first attempts at using gouache! usually my paint of preference is acrylic, but now i'm a total convert. gouache is the way forward! i'm going to send these to some greetings card companies to see if they would be right for them, so fingers crossed!

what's the best way to cheer up a grey january day? embroider! i got the ultimate kit from sublime stitching for christmas and it was definitely the best present this year! now my stitches have become a lot neater, here's some peacocks i'm working on which will eventually be a little framed piece of lovelyness for my sister.

'dusty' - illustration friday

the first thing that came to mind with this weeks topic was the amazing Dusty Springfield, what a voice! 'Spooky' is one of my favourite songs of all time, incredibly smooth and just beautiful. more of a simple graphic-ey entry this week, however in my opinion the song paints a picture of its own!
